ALBAWABA – For the first time in four years, iPhone dropped off China’s list for the best-selling phones, while locally made brands like Huawei and Oppo recorded a remarkable increase in sales.

Economic data published on Friday in China revealed a decline in iPhone sales in the market, leading iPhone to drop off the list of China’s best-selling smartphones for the first time in four years. The date recorded a vast increase for local brands like Huawei and Oppo.

International Data Corporation (IDC), a premier global market intelligence firm, reported iPhone sales decline by 3.1% in the Chinese market during the second quarter of 2024, while competing Android brands recorded an increase of 11%.

It is worth mentioning that Apple stores and retailers are continuously offering huge discounts on devices in China to increase sales rates as reported by Bloomberg.

The slowdown in the Chinese economy contributed to iPhone sales decline, while Huawei Technologies recorded a huge increase in sales and ranked on top of the largest Android phones companies in China during the second quarter of 2024.

Canalys, a leading global technology market analyst firm, said iPhone sales in China fell by 3.9% in the second quarter of 2024 while Counterpoint, a global technology market research firm, recorded the decrease by 5.7%.

Alternatively, June data revealed some recovery for Apple's sales in the Chinese market, as IDC reported sales increase in April and May of 2024. iPhone sales declined in June 2024 due to some profitability concerns at the Chinese market.
