"Big Blue" recently launched its new IBM ThinkPad I series Notebook PC in the Middle East, and sales are expected to surpass 1,000 in first four months.
This Notebook marks IBM's first entry aimed at specifically the university student, family, children and small business markets (companies with less than 50 employees).
Hamid Hassan, IBM Brand Manager for ThinkPad Personal Systems Group for Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan announced, "Traditionally, we have always been strong in the commercial market which covers small and medium enterprises and large businesses. But we see that there's a huge increase in the trend of people switching from desktop to mobile
computers, so we want to leverage in this market."
The computer hardware giant's new ThinkPad I-Series 12000 costs $1,167, a competitive price when compared to IBM's commercial notebooks which cost $ 1,800 to $2,000, Khaleej Times reported. It features an Intel mobile Celeron processor, capable of up to 550 MHz with 128 KB L2 cache at processor speed. The new models weigh in at 2.7 kilograms and are 35.6 millimeters thin, and come equipped with a standard 56K V.90 modem for easy access to the Internet and also provide users legacy-free capabilities.
