Gulf Air's inaugural flight to Sydney took off from Gate 11 at Bahrain International Airport where a group of guests and passengers gathered to mark the commencement of direct daily services to the Australian port city.
Operating its fleet of Airbus A340-300 out of Bahrain, Gulf Air will offer a three-class code share service with Olympic Airways on flights to Sydney via Singapore, providing the shortest elapsed time on flights to and from Australia. Flights to Singapore will increase from the present three times a week to a daily service.
Simultaneous with the commencement of flights to Australia, Gulf Air will start non-stop daily services between Athens and Bahrain on Airbus A320 to give passengers from Greece a brief connection of just over an hour to the Sydney flight.
The inaugural flight also sees the introduction of Gulf Air's world first Sky Nanny. Specially trained by Norland College, the sky nannies will provide specialist childcare for children up to the age of 12 from the moment of boarding the flight to the end of the journey.
Gulf Air was founded in 1950. Today, it is owned by the governments of Bahrain, Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The airline is in the first year of a three-year strategic recovery program, headed by President and Chief Executive, James Hogan. — (menareport.com)
