ALBAWABA – Google, the American multinational corporation and technology company, announced the new usage of artificial intelligence (AI) to detect stolen Android smartphones. The new tool can sense movements that can indicate potential thefts.

Google stated that the feature aims to enhance the protection of data on Android smartphones, even if they are stolen. The new tool can easily detect signs of theft and will automatically lock the device, allowing users to remotely secure their phones as well.

According to the company, artificial intelligence (AI) was successfully deployed to help users automatically identify suspicious activities and proactively protect their smartphones and their data. Users can benefit from the ‘screen lock feature,’ that activates if someone snatches their smartphone and attempts to run, bike, or even drive away.

Additionally, the feature will also be available for offline devices by locking them automatically. Users can utilize Google’s "Find My Device" feature and "Remote Lock" without needing their Google account password; a phone number and verification question will be enough using any other available device.

It is worth noting that Google announced earlier this year the launch of new features designed to protect smartphone data. The company stated that these features will be available via Google Play services later this year for users of Android 10+ and Android 15.

These new tools will prevent deleting users’ data if factory reset option is used, requiring the answering of verification questions. Additionally, the company introduced the new ‘Private Space’ feature, which allows users to create a secure space on their smartphones to hide and lock their own private data, with a dedicated PIN code, to better save sensitive data like health or financial details.
