Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro appear on new renders with leaks regarding design and cameras.

ALBAWABA – Google’s flagship phones, the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, are expected to be announced half-way through this year, with Google last year reporting its success in selling over 40 million Pixel phones, leakers are already jumping on board to uncover the upcoming models and what it might bring to the competition.

  • Design and Display

Google Pixel fans are all buzzing after Steve H.McFly, also known as OnLeaks, has collaborated with MySmartPrice and 91Mobiles on releasing CAD renders of the upcoming phones that show big design changes with flat edges, that seem to be inspired by Apple’s iPhone 15, and a floating camera bump that doesn’t go across the backside of the phone like the last Pixel 8.

The Pixel 9 Pro is reported to have the same body size as last year’s Pixel 8, however a smaller screen of 9.5 inches compared to the previous 9.7 inches, due to thicker bezels around the display, with a lower resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels compared to 1344 x 2992 pixels on the Pixel 8. Same resolution is expected on the smaller Pixel 9 model, with a 6.1 inches screen, smaller than its predecessor but reportedly with a taller aspect ratio.

The new phones appear to ditch the curved edges to have a flatter design, reminiscent of the iPhone 15 and recently announced Galaxy S24, it is still unclear whether Google will stick to its Aluminum based frame, or switch to Titanium like Apple and Samsung have done.

  • Cameras

While little is still known about the camera cystems on the Pixel 9 line-up, it appears from the OnLeaks renders and shared details that the cameras will be sitting on a thicker island of 12mm, compared to 8.5mm on the previous models, still horizontal but not as wide as before.

MySmartPrice in its list of the expected specs for the Pixel 9 Pro, that it might have a 108 megapixels primary camera senor, a huge upgrade over the 50 megapixels one on the Pixel 8 Pro, the second camera appears to have a lighter improvement going from 48 megapixels to 50 megapixels, while the third one is getting a downgrade from 48 megapixels all the way to mere 12 megapixels.

The Pixel 9 on the other hand is expected to introduce a third module of 50 megapixels, with the main and secondary cameras moving to 64 and 50 megapixels, compared to 50 and 12 megapixels on the last generation.

  • Other Details

While MySmartPrice lists a possible switch from Google’s own Tensor chips to Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 91Mobiles expects an updated Tensor chip combined with AI features similar to Samsung’s approach.

These leaks are initial and are to be taken with a grain of salt, but if true, it appears that Google is going for a more compact yet stylish look. The Pixel 9 line-up is expected to be announced on January and released around October, no price details are available yet.
