Godrej & Boyce (G&B) recorded a turnover of 4.5 million Emirati dirhams ($1.2 million) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the financial year 2002-03, which is almost a 100 percent growth the previous year.
Although present in the UAE market for over the last 30 years, Godrej and Boyce came up with its own establishment in July 2002 operating from Sharjah Airport International Free (SAIF) Zone. This entity is responsible for covering the entire Middle East market, duly supported by a host of distributors.
Currently there are seven divisions of Godrej & Boyce that offer their products in the UAE. These are the Security Equipment Division, Furniture & Interiors Group, Storage Solutions Group, Material Handling Equipment, Locks, Precision Equipment Division and the Prima Division. The company plans to introduce its appliances in the UAE market shortly.
Founded in 1897 by Ardeshir Godrej, the company has been controlled by the Godrej family since its inception. About one-fourth of the company's share capital is held by the Pirojsha Godrej Foundation, a public charitable trust. G&B employs about 9,000 people and sells its products through an all-India network of 33 company-owned showrooms, 1,000 wholesale dealers and more than 5,000 retail outlets. — (menareport.com)
