Employees at Germany’s baby food manufacturer Humana had previous knowledge of the B1 vitamin deficiency present in the non-dairy product that captures 34 percent of the Israeli formula market, reported Globes. The deficiency is linked to death of two infants in the Jewish state.
Israeli police received information confirming that senior executives at subsidiary Remedia in Israel knew that the product contained only a tenth of the advertised quantity of vitamin B1, which is vital to brain development in infants. Evidence of the prior knowledge is reportedly documented in memos, witness statements and recorded conversations.
Germany's police department has launched an investigation of the Humana Milchunion plant that supplied the soy-based formula to Remedia. On Tuesday, November 11, the company admitted to the deficient quantity of vitamin B1, saying it was a production error and promised full cooperation with the authorities.
Israeli prosecutors are also investigating Remedia’s facility. A special police team interrogated CEO Gidi Landsberger on Thursday. — (menareport.com)
