ALBAWABA - In a recent legal move, Amazon is taking on what it describes as a global syndicate of thieves responsible for pilfering millions of dollars in merchandise from the e-commerce giant.

The orchestrated thefts involve a string of fraudulent schemes centered around refund operations, where products were purchased on Amazon, and attempts were made to reclaim the funds without returning the items.

The lawsuit targets a group identified as "REKK," consisting of approximately 30 individuals spanning the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Greece, Lithuania, and the Netherlands.

The intricate plan encompasses breaching Amazon's internal systems and bribing company staff to greenlight refund transactions. "REKK" applied commissions to customers seeking to acquire high-value items, like MacBook Pro laptops and car tires, without fulfilling the actual payment.

Amazon contends that the accused parties manipulated its refund processing system, reneging on the commitment to return the purchased products. Instead, they allegedly retained both the products and the refunded amounts.

The legal action specifically names at least seven former Amazon employees who allegedly participated in the fraudulent operations, accepting bribes to approve refund amounts despite the absence of returned products. The accused individuals are accused of engaging in deceitful practices regarding refunded amounts, keeping both the product and the refunded sum.
