Emirates recorded a 27 percent in passenger traffic for August, with the amount of passengers reaching 1,009,636 compared with 792,399 in August 2002, stated a press release.

Emirates also achieved a new record of 2,115 departures from Dubai International Airport, against 1,577 in August 2002. Freight loads surged to 52,430 tons, 28 percent more than last August and the most ever carried by the airline.

By the end of this year, Emirates will have added 11 new Boeing and Airbus jets to its fleet during 2003 and launched new routes from Dubai to Moscow, Auckland, Brisbane and Lagos, as well as freighter services to New York, Frankfurt, and Gothenburg.

Dubai-based Emirates Airline was established in 1985. The airline's current fleet is comprised of 53 aircraft, a mix of Airbus A330-200s, Boeing 777-300s, 777-200s and 747-200/400Fs, with an average age of three years, the youngest in the skies. In 2006 Emirates will receive the first of 45 A380 double-decker super-jumbos on order, and over the next decade it expects to more than double its fleet size. — (menareport.com)
