Emirates Airline plans to open six new destinations in 2004 including gateways in the US, Scotland, central Europe, China and West Africa in a network expansion spread across four continents.
On January 2, 2004, the airline's operations in Africa leap forward with flights to Lagos and Accra. On April 10, Shanghai and Glasgow routes come on line. On May 1, flights to Vienna will start and on June 1, Emirates launches new, non-stop service to New York providing the first direct air link between the Middle East and North America.
The new non-stop service will dramatically reduce traveling times for business and leisure passengers between the East Coast US and the Lower Gulf. To date, travel has often been via a point in Europe sometimes requiring a change of terminal.
Emirates currently has 55 modern Boeing and Airbus jets in service -- 29 Airbus A330-200s, 12 Boeing 777-300s, nine Boeing 777-200s, one Airbus A340-500, one Airbus A310 and three Boeing 747 freighters.
