Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) and Almarai Company Limited, the region’s largest dairy producer, held another Clean Up UAE Day on December 12, 2002 throughout the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In all, the Dubai area collected six tons, Abu Dhabi collected 2.5 tons and Sharjah collected two tons of assorted garbage from the designated clean up areas.
A total of 4,500 school children and EEG corporate member representatives took part in the clean up event in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al-Khaimah, Al-Ain and Al-Silaa. Some 78 schools, colleges, universities and more than a dozen EEG corporate members came from all around the UAE to collect rubbish. In the smaller clean up events that also took place, Al-Silaa collected 150 large carrier bags of rubbish and Ras Al-Khaimah collected 200 large carrier bags of rubbish. — (menareport.com)
