EMC Corporation has affirmed its commitment to the Middle East by appointing a new regional manager, as well as the establishment of an office in Saudi Arabia. Mohammed Amin has been named as EMC's regional general manager, charged with achieving and sustaining a regional market share of more than 45 percent, and growing EMC's customer base in the Middle East beyond the leading telecoms providers, energy organizations, and financial services institutions that currently utilize EMC storage solutions.

Under Amin's management, EMC is set to open a new office this month in Riyadh. At a press conference, Amin also announced that EMC will increase its number of staff in the region during 2003, adding new resources in crucial markets such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and the UAE.

As EMC's regional solution fulfillment is conducted exclusively through channel partners, developing the company's Middle East channel is a key priority for Amin in his new role. EMC is rolling out a multichannel approach for the region, in which there are both geographical and industry vertical focus areas for EMC's distributors.

Through EMC's partner accreditation program, which the company is launching later this month, EMC is investing further in the Middle East to ensure that its channel has the necessary skills, resources, and spare parts available to service customers in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Levant, and North Africa markets.
