During the first half of the year 2001, Egypt has exported 7.3 billion Egyptian pounds ($1.7 billion) worth of merchandise. This reflects a seven percent increase, up from EP 6.8 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
According to the report, published by the Egyptian Cabinet’s Information & Decision Making Support Center, the country’s imports recorded a four percent rise, from EP 19.9 billion to EP 20.7 billion between January and June 2001.
As a result, Egypt’s trade deficit climbed nearly 2.5 percent, from EP 13.08 billion to EP 13.4 billion during the same period. — (Mena Report)
