The Egyptian Chemical Industries Company’s new plant at the Industrial Estate in southern Port Said (C9) is scheduled to come on stream in the second half of 2004, reported Al-Sharq Al-Awsat .
According to the company’s Chairman of the Board Mohammed Abu Ismail, the new plant, valued at $100 million, is built on 230,000 square meters of land. The new complex will manufacture chemicals used for drainage treatment and drinking water purification with an annual output of 400,000 tons of caustic soda and 100,000 tons of chlorine. Ismail also stated that 50 percent of the plant’s output would be exported to other Arab states.
Founded in 1956 as a publicly owned urea fertilizer producer, Egyptian Chemical Industries with established for the purpose of producing nitrogenous manure for the Southern Valley by using elector-hydraulic power generated by the Aswan Dam.
The company started producing in 1960 with a production capacity of 600 tons of ammonia per day, then in 1967 a factory was built to produce ferro-silicon with a production capacity of 7,000 tons per year. The company’s main factories are fertilizer and ferrosilicon plants located in Aswan. — (menareport.com)
