The Head of the Exporters General Commission at the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce Association, Mustapha Zaki, recently called the government to pass new stiff legislation in a bid to prevent ready-to-wear clothes smuggling into the country, according to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat.
Zaki added that the national clothes industry incurred heavy losses due to smuggling, not only from China and Turkey but also from Israel. These clothes are illegally smuggled into Egypt, using faked certificates of origin, showing that the product was manufactured in a country other than Israel.
Zakai stated that Israel used this method to market its products in Egypt and throughout the Arab World, especially after the tightening of the Arab embargo on Israel following the outbreak of the Palestinian Intifada. — (Mena Report)
