Despite repeated statements, capital owners have not been honouring their promises to build and equip public schools or financially support Government-run programmes that aim at eradicating illiteracy, particularly among women and girls, which impedes the progress in implementing national development plans in rural and urban areas.

The private sector should invest more money in education and in developing knowledge and scientific research in Egypt. This would create an educated generation, reduce the high unemployment rates and open up more opportunities for Egyptians in the international labour market.

Moreover, capital owners are urged to create a special fund that provides grants to the nation's needy students, researchers, academics and experts to help them write research papers and translate English science books into Arabic.
