ALBAWABA - Hamad Ali Al Marri Director of the Land Transport Licensing Department has said during Expo 2023 at Doha, that the Ministry of Transport (MoT) aims to progressively transition 100 percent of Qatar's fleet of public buses to electric models by 2030 as reported by Zawya.
According to Al Marri, current operating rate of electric buses has reached around 70 percent, adding that it’s made possible by an integrated infrastructure which offers a number of advantages, most notably are lower energy and fuel costs, a decrease in pollutants and the country's carbon footprint, and an overall improvement in people's quality of life.
During the event, the Municipality Minister, Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, recognized a number of prominent businesses and organizations with Excellence in Sustainability Awards in recognition of their contributions to environmental protection and their capacity to implement the strongest environmental sustainability guidelines in their operations.
Al Attiyah also announced the launch of a new book titled “Environmental Sustainability in Qatar -Achievements and Challenges” which examines Qatar's accomplishments in the areas of social, environmental, and economic sustainability in the context of its desire to keep up the pace of modernization and growth, prepared and published under sponsorship from MoT.
Along with tracking Qatari enterprises' successes in environmental sustainability, the book discusses the national environmental and climate change plan of Qatar, as well as analyses and documents Qatari organizations' capacity to solve climate change challenges and accomplish environmentally friendly growth.
