Dubai-based Liberty Automobiles has announced the opening of the world's largest General Motors (GM) showroom in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Located in Sharjah, the complex is spread over an area of 400,000 square feet. The new showroom measures over 100,000 square feet and is designed like a boutique to show the full range of GM brands such as Cadillac, Chevrolet and Opel, with a capability of displaying more than 80 cars at a time.
In 2003, GM sold around 60,000 vehicles in the Middle East and is targeting sales of 75,000 for 2004. Liberty Automobiles recently unveiled the new generation of Cadillac - Cadillac XLR and Cadillac SRX V-8 to the region.
Established in 1977, Liberty Automobiles is part of the Dubai-based Liberty Investment Co., which includes a wide range of business interests, including automobiles, travel and tourism, freight-forwarding, rent-a-car services, real estate, hospitality, management and consultancy.
Liberty Automobiles has been associated with General Motors for the past 28 years and continues to play an important role in General Motors' development in the region as an authorized dealer of Cadillac, Chevrolet, Opel and Hummer.
In 2003, US-based GM sold more than 8.6 million cars and trucks, nearly 15 percent of the global market. The company has been operating in the Middle East since the early 1940s. GM parts and accessories are sold under the GM Parts and ACDelco brands.
