Developers of the Dubai Festival City real estate project and Emirates Trading Agency (ETA) have started construction of a 110 megawatt primary sub-station to provide the initial power requirements of the development.
"The 40 million Emirati dirham ($10.8 million) sub-station will be the first of a network of three sub-stations which will supply power exclusively to the residents and businesses of Dubai Festival City," said Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Festival City, Lee Tabler.
When fully completed the Dubai Festival City sub-station network will generate power equivalent to over five percent of Dubai's complete current total power consumption. "We co-operated closely with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and selected ETA based on its ability to deliver and the quality of its work," continued Tabler.
DEWA is acting as the design and engineering consultant for the 50 x 60 meter, three-storey sub-station which will be completed in November 2003. In keeping with the project's overall design, the sub-station will blend architecturally with the development's general concept.
Dubai Festival City is being developed on 1,600 acres on the banks of Dubai's historic Creek. Comprising 15 distinct development zones, Dubai Festival City is a property development by the Al-Futtaim Group and is the Middle East's largest mixed-use real estate project.
The privately-funded property will comprise a mix of entertainment, dining, shopping, edutainment, sport and leisure facilities, automotive dealerships, hotels, a marina, residential and office components. — (menareport.com)
