Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. concluded on Monday an initial service agreement in Oman with Ahmed Bin Maki, minister of national economy of Oman, on providing a post-sale service shipyard.

Under the agreement, Daewoo will consider building the shipyard in Duqm, on Oman's central coast, and operate it for some time after its completion on behalf of the Oman government, a company spokesman said.

The dockyard, which would be the largest of its kind in the Middle East, will be capable of allowing repairs to even the largest crude carriers at two docks, it said, according to WAM. After consulting on the issue until April next year, the cost and construction period of the shipyard will be decided, the company spokesman said.
