The republics of Cyprus and Lebanon signed three cooperation agreements during a three-day official visit of Lebanese President Emile Lahoud to the Mediterranean island, where he met and held talks with Cypriot counterpart Glafcos Clerides.
The governments of Cyprus and Lebanon signed an agreement on cultural, educational and scientific cooperation, as well as an agreement on the readmission of persons residing without authorization, an agreement on cooperation in combating the illicit use and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and organized crime.
After the meeting, Lahoud stated that Lebanon is expected to gain easy access to the European Union (EU) through Cyprus, following Cyprus' anticipated accession to the union. “Cyprus' accession to the EU will have positive effects on both countries." — (menareport.com)
