Cyprus will add an extra digit to its dialing codes from abroad as of Saturday, December 1, Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) announced. The code to call Nicosia from abroad will change to 35722, from 3572, plus the local number, and 35725 for Limassol, 35724 for Larnaca, 35723 for Ayia Napa, and 35726 for Paphos.
For mobile phones, the code from abroad will become 35799, instead of 3579. The new and old numbers will operate in parallel until June 1, 2002. State-run CYTA said the change was needed to meet increased demand from new technology and other telecommunication service providers. — (AFP, Nicosia)
