Crescent Petroleum Co. on Monday, April 23, denied a Tehran newspaper report that it had signed a two-billion-dollar deal with National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) to supply gas to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). "We have very good working relations with NIOC, but we are not aware of what is being talked about. The report is sheer nonsense," a senior official from the Sharjah-based Crescent Petroleum said, asking not to be named.
But he stressed that Crescent Petroleum, an Emirati company registered in Panama, had "been active in the Abu Musa protocol area for the last 30 years, and dealing with NIOC with no problems." Tehran's English-language Iran News reported on Thursday that NIOC had signed a $2 billion dollar agreement with Crescent to supply natural gas to the UAE despite a dispute between the two Gulf states over islands.
It said gas would be supplied from Iran's offshore Salman field and "transported through a pipeline to the Mobarak platform near Abu Mussa island where it will be pressurised" and sent to Dubai and the UAE's northern emirates via two pipelines. —(AFP)
