ALBAWABA - In a significant infrastructure achievement, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in China's Guizhou province has taken a crucial step closer to becoming the world's tallest bridge.
The latest milestone comes with the completion of the bridge's final main tower, standing at a remarkable height of 625 meters above the Beipan River.
This extraordinary project, stretching across 2,890 meters, forms an integral part of the highway network, connecting Liupanshui city's Liuzhi special zone with Anlong county in the Qianxinan Bouyei-Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou province.
The construction team, led by project manager Wang Chaoguo, noted that the journey from the initial foundation piling to the finalization of the main towers spanned more than 670 days. They also announced their continued focus on advancing the bridge's superstructure.
Upon completion in 2025, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is anticipated to transform the local transportation landscape, reducing the travel time across the canyon from 70 minutes to a mere one minute. This development is poised to stimulate regional social and economic progress and breathe new life into rural communities.
Guizhou, renowned for its challenging mountainous terrain and winding valleys, currently hosts around 50% of the world's top 100 highest bridges, further solidifying its reputation in the realm of structural engineering achievements.
