ALBAWABA - China's production of electric vehicles surpassed 10 million units in 2024, as the country continues its efforts to reduce global carbon emissions. The government aims to sell only electric and hybrid vehicle models by 2035.

China breaks its 2024 record for electric vehicle production

China recorded the manufacture of 10 million electric vehicles last week, marking its 2024 production target. The country previously produced about 9.587 million electric vehicles last year and sold around 9.495 million units in 2023.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, this recent achievement was celebrated in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and organized by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

China plans to primarily sell electric and hybrid vehicle models by 2035. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), electric and hybrid vehicles accounted for more than half of the country’s domestic vehicle sales in July 2024.

It is worth noting that the European Commission imposed a 35.3% customs duty on Chinese-imported electric vehicles, amid ongoing tensions between Beijing’s manufacturing sector and the West.

On the other hand, China opposed the European Commission's regulations and filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization. The country confirmed it is taking necessary measures to protect its companies and economy.
