ALBAWABA – Security concerns have been raised after reports emerged of users employing ChatGPT, the generative AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, to create fake identification cards (IDs) following the popular Ghibli style trend.

Notably, two weeks ago, OpenAI, the American artificial intelligence (AI) research organization, released a new Ghibli-style feature on the ChatGPT AI chatbot.

Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation studio based in Koganei, Tokyo. It has a strong presence in the animation industry and has expanded its portfolio to include various media such as short subjects, television commercials and two television films.

The Ghibli release led to a surge in millions of users on the application over the past week. Users used the AI chatbot to create images and shared them across various social media platforms worldwide.

According to Similarweb, a global software development and data aggregation company, the popular ChatGPT platform recorded over 150 million active users in the past week.

Security concerns have been raised recently, as the generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool can create images and documents that look almost real. It was reported that many users have been using ChatGPT to generate fake identification cards (IDs).

Notably, multiple versions of India's Aadhaar cards—a 12-digit identification number that serves as both proof of identity and proof of address for residents of India—went viral on the internet over the past two days. These cards were generated using the artificial intelligence (AI) tool powered by ChatGPT.

The fake Indian cards featured fake names, images, and QR codes. Some of the fake IDs were created using photos and identities of celebrities, including Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla.

“I asked AI to generate an Aadhaar card with just a name, DOB, and address ..and it created a near-perfect replica. So now anybody can make fake replica of Aadhar and Pan card... We keep talking about data privacy, but who’s selling these Aadhaar and Pancard datasets to AI companies to make such models? How else could it know the format so precisely,” stated Piku, an AI Enthusiast and Youtuber.
