ALBAWABA – A watch once owned by Charles de Gaulle, the former President of France, and the French military officer and statesman who led the Free French Forces against Nazi Germany in World War II and chaired the Provisional Government of the French Republic from 1944 to 1946 to restore democracy in France, was sold at an auction for $525,000 (500,000 euros).

Former French President Charles de Gaulle’s watch was sold at an auction of his personal belongings in Paris, hosted by the Artcurial auction house. The watch was manufactured by LIP, 150-year-old French watch, and clock company, and sold for $525,000 (500,000 euros).

It is worth noting that the company still produces the watch of General de Gaulle watch as it is considered a cultural symbol of the country’s history.

The auction held by Artcurial showcased personal belongings for de Gaulle, including letters, a book manuscript, and even a school report, and raised a total of $5,880,000 (5.6 million euros).

Charles de Gaulle was the former President of France, served from 1959 to 1969. He also served as the French military officer and statesman who led the Free French Forces against Nazi Germany in World War II and chaired the Provisional Government of the French Republic from 1944 to 1946 to restore democracy in France.
