Canon Middle East has appointed information technology (IT) provider Tech Data as a wholesale distribution partner for the region. This signals a change in Canon's approach to the technology market, allowing it to provide its range of consumer computer peripherals, including printers, scanners, multifunction devices and related consumables, to an expanded regional reseller community in the region.

The announcement covers the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. Canon's existing National Sales Organisations (NSOs), which have represented it for many years in the Middle East, will continue to provide total solutions, with full in-country service support.

The market for peripheral products has grown steadily and Canon has been strongly outperforming the market. In 2002, Canon's printer business saw a 51 percent unit growth, as compared to 15 percent for the overall Middle East printer market (IDC). Canon's scanner business grew by 77 percent, and the company recently expanded the multifunction device segment.

Canon is a manufacturer of imaging solutions for individuals and businesses. The company operates in two clearly defined markets: Consumer Business Solutions and Consumer Imaging Products. Canon employs more than 90,000 people around the world. — (menareport.com)
