Cairo’s bourse gains ground in midweek trading

On Monday, July 30, market activity rose in comparison to last week, as shares traded recorded at 3 million. The PAMI index started off well, rising at the beginning of the session to breach the 6,000 level, but was soon sold off to finish the day at its low, down 39 points at 5,896.1. 

 

Regional mobile operator, OT gained 2.37 percent despite it GDS which continued to fall to close at $1.95. Meanwhile, MobiNiL remained flat at LE56.90. Talks concerning Suez Cement’s soon to be announced EGA seemed to boost investor confidence, pushing the stock up 0.68 percent to LE34.05. Aic’s recently released results continued to weigh heavily on the stock price, as it recorded a new low of LE0.88, translated into a 4.35 percent decline.  

 

Construction giant OCI also inched down 0.81 percent to record at LE30.54. Stocks hitting new lows yesterday included Media Production City at LE7.70 and National Cement at LE4.93. CIB remained stable at LE32.63 ahead of its 1H FY01 results.
