One of the most important tips at networking events is to have enough business cards in your pocket to seize the opportunity of meeting someone interesting. Whether you’re out there to network, hunt for a job or meeting a contact for the first time, it’s essential to have the right information on your business card so that it’s easy for people to track you down for a follow up or new business.

Whether you are attending a job fair, a career networking event or meeting a contact one-on-one, it's a good idea to have a job search focused business card, so it's easy for people you meet to follow up with you.

Here are 3 things you need to include on your business card:

Take advantage of new technologies and include more than just the basic contact information such as your name, job title, company’s name, phone number and email address. If you use a two-sided card, you will be able to include additional information while avoiding to clutter the front of the card.

1.  YourLinkedin URL. In today’s business world; you need to prove your tech skills and ability to communicate online by incorporating your Linkedin profile URL on your business card. Make sure your Linkedin profile is showcasing your accomplishments and recommendations. Read my article about how to market yourself using Linkedin.

2.  Address of your personal business’ Website. Adding a link to your personal business Website or blog will help show case professionalism and market your business in a direct way for those interested in more information. If you work in art, design or writing, a link to your portfolio can be effective in showcasing your actual work which will prove to prospective employers that you are the right person for the job.

3.  QR code. You can also add a QR code which can be scanned by a smartphone and is linked to a website URL (can be your Facebook page) so the viewer can get more information.

Some professionals use the other side of their business card to say more about themselves by including a tagline or listing three to five key skills or knowledge areas they can offer to clients and potential employers.

It’s important not to clutter your card. Make sure your card has enough white space so it's easy to read and that the design is attractive. It pays to be creative with the shape and design so that your business card is memorable.
