ALBAWABA - Following a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, US President Joe Biden made an announcement on Wednesday that a new military assistance package worth $425 million will be provided to Ukraine.
The package would include air defence capabilities, air-to-ground munitions, armoured vehicles, and vital munitions, according to the White House, and it would be intended to strengthen Ukraine's defences in the midst of an ongoing conflict with Russia.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed future defence strategy for Ukraine and focused on boosting Ukraine's military capabilities, in addition to discussing their plans for the future, according to Reuters.
In a statement, Zelenskiy extended his appreciation to Vice President Biden, the United States Congress, and the American people for their ongoing support. He also mentioned Ukraine's five-point "victory plan" and advocated the possibility of cooperative weapons production as well as further training for Ukrainian military.
Through the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, sometimes referred to as the Ramstein group, Biden is attempting to strengthen international support for Ukraine. It is anticipated that the coalition of more than fifty countries backing Ukraine's military operations would have a virtual summit in November, as reported by The Hill.
Biden promised in September to provide $8 billion in aid before the conclusion of his tenure, including this recent $425 million package which involves hundreds of air defence interceptors, tactical air defence systems, and armoured vehicles.
