The heads of five Arab national airlines will meet in Cairo on Saturday October 13 to discuss the fallout from US-led strikes on Afghanistan for the region's aviation industry, Egypt's state MENA news agency reported.
The emergency meeting of the executive committee of the Arab Air Transport Union will focus on "means of cooperation among Arab airlines to face the crisis" which has shaken the aviation industry since the September 11 hijacked plane attacks on the United States, MENA said.
The heads of EgyptAir, Royal Jordanian, Lebanon's Middle East Airlines (MEA), Royal Air Maroc of Morocco and Saudi Arabian Airlines, who make up the committee, will discuss ways of ensuring "maximum security and quality of service" amid the crisis. The meeting will be chaired by the Arab Air Transport Union's secretary general Abdel Wahhab Tuffaha. — (AFP, Cairo)
