The American University of Kuwait (AUK) has adopted the SCT Luminis Platform, it was announced Monday by SunGard SCT, an operating unit of SunGard.  AUK’s move to the SCT Luminis Platform, a digital campus portal solution, complements the University’s successful 2004 adoption of SCT Banner, one of the world’s most widely used college administrative solutions. The SCT Luminis Platform and SCT Banner will allow AUK to create a Unified Digital Campus environment in which the University’s constituents can interact seamlessly for learning, teaching, and administration.

“SCT Banner is helping us to fuse our university’s administrative and academic function into one. It has more than proven itself over the past year, as our students interact with AUK from anywhere in the world, at any time of day.  It is supporting our new student and faculty community that is prompting us to take the next step to the SCT Luminis Platform,” said Dr. Shafeeq Ghabra, president, AUK.  “The SCT Luminis Platform combines with SCT Banner to help provide our constituents with direct integration to all aspects of their university lives.  Users can customize their digital campus through a personalized Web site giving them access to a greater variety of AUK services with minimal time and effort.”

The implementation of SCT Luminis Platform will begin in April with support from SunGard SCT, with delivery to the AUK learning community scheduled for the fall 2005 semester.  AUK intends for its students to be the region’s first to have a fully integrated student services platform like the SCT Luminis Platform.

The SCT Luminis Platform will provide students with single sign-on access to e-mail, class registration, and library services and materials.  Integrating SCT Banner and the SCT Luminis Platform will create a consistent interface for all of these services, helping to make the user experience simple and effective.

“AUK is innovating at the forefront of regional higher education.  The commitment to excellence in student service is a critical driver for the University in their adoption of solutions that will help them implement a truly Unified Digital Campus experience.  SCT Luminis Platform is a great way to enhance the university experience for students, faculty and staff alike,” said Mathew Boice, general manager, Middle East for SunGard SCT.

“Students can compile all their course information, organize their study schedules, sports activities, and so much more on an easy-to-use platform that also gives them the added benefit of interacting with their fellow students and teachers.  We are pleased to be working with a regional thought leader in higher education such as AUK and helping them to deliver more value to their constituents and their learning community.  This project will demonstrate the adoption benefits of e-education and the digital campus,” Mr. Boice said.
