ALBAWABA – Amazon, the American multinational technology company, announced investing an additional $4 billion into Anthropic, an artificial intelligence research and development company and a major competitor to OpenAI, the American artificial intelligence (AI) research organization that owns ChatGPT.

Amazon and Anthropic new investment

According to this new investment, Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, will become Anthropic's primary computing services provider.

It is worth noting that this recent investment will highly contribute to Amazon’s total investments to approximately $8 billion. Amazon previously invested about $1.25 billion in Anthropic in September 2023, and decided to increase the amount to $4 billion at the end of March of 2024.

Our collaboration with Amazon has been instrumental in bringing Claude’s capabilities to millions of end users across tens of thousands of customers. We’re looking forward to working with Amazon to train and power our most advanced AI model.”

Notably, Anthropic and OpenAI are constantly competing with tech giants like Google, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft in the field of generative artificial intelligence, a subset of artificial intelligence that uses generative models to produce text, images, videos, or other forms of data.

Is it worth mentioning that the developing generative AI market is expected to grow to reach approximately $1.3 trillion by 2032.
