Khalifa Airways, a private carrier, which is a subsidiary of the Algerian Khalifa Group, has bought out the entire share capital of Antinea Airlines reported the Pan-African News Agency. This is the first such purchase of its type in the Algerian air transportation sector, which was opened to the private competition in 1999.
The new acquisition means that Khalifa Airways can increase its network of destination to include destinations to five more cities in Algeria, raising its share total to 20, and five international routes, four of them in France and one in Belgium. The airline also services cities in Spain.
Khalifa Airways, which was created in 1999, operates aircraft from Airbus Industries, Boeing aircraft and four ATRs. Khahlifa Airlines and Antinea Airlines were two of four carriers to be created in Algeria after air transport was opened to the private sector. The other two companies that were formed were Eco and Sahara Airlines.
The Khalifa Group, also operates in the medical and banking sectors, and employs about 7,000 workers. ¯ (Albawaba-MEBG)
