The most ambitious project of its kind, Al-Azhar Online, aims to bring together Muslims around the world by creating a global informational center which will enable access to some of the world's oldest and most unique Islamic manuscripts and provides direct access to Islamic culture and heritage from the oldest university and religious institution worldwide in an effort to promote Islamic values and tolerance. This project is among the largest in the world, its third in scope and size behind the Library of Congress and the Vatican.
Funded and managed by the company owned by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the project is undertaking the digital conversion of over 42,000 manuscripts dating back approximately 1,400 years, 9,000 of which are the only existing copies in the world.
Established in October 1999, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum's personal home page and multimedia company provides web development and design, e-learning and translation services.
