US-based Air Products was recently selected by Sasol and Qatar Petroleum as the nominated supplier for an oxygen facility and has been awarded a contract by the engineering, procurement and construction contractor, Technip-Coflexip of Italy, to build two 3,500 metric ton-per-day air separation plants.

The plants will supply oxygen to the advanced gas-to-liquid (GTL) facility in Qatar owned by ORYX. Gas-to-liquids is the conversion of natural gas to clean, liquid fuels. The ORYX nominal 34,000 barrel-per-day GTL facility is scheduled to be on-stream in 2005.

ORYX is a joint venture between Sasol Synfuels International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sasol and Qatar Petroleum, based in Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar.

Founded in 1940, Air Products serves customers in technology, energy, healthcare and industrial markets worldwide with a unique portfolio of products, services and solutions, providing atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials and chemical intermediates. — (menareport.com)
