Official statistics show that the value of investments in local basic mineral industries amounted to 33.3 billion Emirati Dirhams in 1998, which constituted 23 percent of total industrial investments in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reported Al-Bayan. This number grew to Dh 39.6 billion in 1999, which constituted 30 percent of the total industrial investments in the country.
