AUC’s Cairo review of global affairs Features special report on “Arab Revolution”

The American University in Cairo (AUC) today released the inaugural issue of The Cairo Review of Global Affairs featuring a special report on revolution across the Arab world. The quarterly journal, published by AUC’s School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, is being distributed worldwide in a print edition, and is available online at Cairo Review. 

“As a committed Arab internationalist, I have always recognized that the Arab contribution to international policy journals was relatively lacking,” said Nabil Fahmy, GAPP’s dean and chairman of the Cairo Review’s 15-member editorial board. “The Cairo Review will bring a Middle East perspective to the global public policy debate .In an interdependent world, no region can afford to ignore the debate or to be left out of it.” 

In The Cairo Review’s Spring issue, Nobel laureate Ahmed Zewail writes about the Arab renaissance; Middle East scholar William B. Quandt analyzes the deadlock in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations; Brookings Institution fellow Shadi Hamid surveys the region’s struggle for democracy; and U.S. envoy Princeton N. Lyman provides an inside look at peace negotiations in Sudan. 

In addition, The Cairo Review’s first issue contains a section called “Inside Egypt’s Uprising” presenting interviews with nine leading Arab personalities who discuss challenges now facing the country and the Middle East. They include Muslim preacher Amr Khaled, novelist Alaa Al Aswany, youth leader Esraa Abdel Fattah, Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Essam El-Erian and human rights activist Aida Seif El-Dawla. 

“The inaugural edition of the Cairo Review provides an exceptional exposé on the Egyptian revolution and the genesis and challenges of the reform process in the Arab world,” said Fahmy. “It also presents insight into the most longstanding regional political issue, the Arab-Israeli conflict, as well as educational policy in the Middle East. This is really a great beginning and much remains to come in future editions.”
