Asian Zonal Chess Championship 2011, supported by du, draws to a close

Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Bin Shakhbout Al-Nahyan, the President of the Asian Chess Federation, accompanied by Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla, President of the UAE Chess Federation and Chairman of Sharjah Chess Club, honoured du for officially supporting the Asian Zonal Chess Championship 2011 Men and Women in the presence of Khalid Isa Al-Madfa, Assistant Secretary General of General Authority for Youth and Sports. Ahmad Aburahima attended the ceremony and received a trophy of thanks on behalf of du.
The UAE qualified to participate in the 2011 Individual Chess World Cup, scheduled to be held in August 2011 in Khanty-Mansisik, Russia, after Emirati Salem Abdul Rahman won the Championship’s gold medal.
Ahmad Aburahima, Vice President, Government Relations, du, said, “We would like to congratulate Salem Abdul Rahman for winning the tournament for our country, and Sharjah Chess Club for successfully bringing this event to the UAE. This has been an exciting initiative for us to be involved with, and we look forward to further encouraging the participation of Emiratis in such invigorating games in the future.”
The Championship, which began on July 4 and was organised by the Sharjah Chess Club, attracted both local and regional players from the World Chess Federation’s Zone 3.1 to battle it out for the winning title in both the men’s and women’s groups.
