Two days of non-stop laughter at the Cadbury Academy of Joy tour in Kuwait

Cadbury Dairy Milk, the iconic global chocolate brand, held its first comedy workshop & professional show for talented young Kuwaiti men and women as part of its Academy of Joy tour. Organized in collaboration with Dubomedy Arts, the hilarious evenings held at the Gulf University for Science & Technology, brought a humorous community of artistes to work together on developing their stand-up talents, performance delivery and improvisation skills as well as encouraging them to share their joyous moments with others.
“Laughter truly is the best way to bring people together, and what better way to bring moments of joy to the lives of young adults in the region than through a comedy tour, and the response has been fantastic! The participants and the Dubomedy team had a wonderful time sharing and learning from each other, which really represents the brand’s joyful personality. We couldn’t have wished for a better start to the tour,” said Mr. Khurram Siddiqi, Director Marketing - Snacks, The GCC and ME New Markets, Kraft Foods MEA.
After spending two days improvising and practicing a stand up routine, the skits were then performed in front of a live audience on the final day of the workshops. The most hilarious stand-up comedian, Abdullah Al Saeedi, was chosen to showcase his laugh-inducing skills by opening for a professional comedy show the evening of May 12, alongside renowned funnymen Omar Ismail and Brent Jenkins. Abdullah presented a stand up routine in Arabic, giving his comedic twist on the issues that leave young men like him confused and delivering his memorable tag line “but you know what?...I don’t care”. Commenting on his experience, Abdullah said, “This was very exciting for me, I've done theater before but never comedy or stand-up, I hope people enjoyed it as much as I did”.
“The event was a great break for students, staff and faculty alike from their daily routines and provided them with an outlet for not only their humor but for their creativity as well as some students showcased great talent at the workshops,” said Ms. Aseel Abou Nemah from GUST’s Office of Student Life.
Ali Al Sayed, Dubomedy Arts producer and performer and host of the workshops, said, “Kuwait has really set a high standard for growing talent of stand-up comedians in the region and we had a brilliant time interacting with them. It’s great to see the Cadbury Academy of Joy offering opportunities for our local artists. We can’t wait to take the tour to another group of aspiring comedians on our next stop in Saudi Arabia”. Along with Ali, the workshops were hosted and led by Mina Liccione, Broadway veteran and headliner of ‘Funny Girls.’
The Cadbury Academy of Joy tour will also be hosting workshops in Jeddah and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Doha, Qatar; and Muscat, Oman. Keep a look out for the upcoming event dates!
