Petra revenues on the rise

The ancient city of Petra in Jordan posted an increase of 27% in the number of visitors during 2010 compared to 2009. According to official figures, the number of tourists who visited Petra last year amounted to 902,313 compared to 708,681 visitors in 2009. 

The city's revenues last year also increased by 31% compared with the year 2009. All in all, total fees last year amounted to JD17.7 million (close to US$25 million)  while the fees during 2009 reached JD13.5 million. 

The increase is attributed to the stability that Jordan enjoys. It is also attributed to the improved services for tourists.
