Four Russian cities will host the Confederations Cup beginning next week. The tournament will showcase Russia's ability to host the more prestigious World Cup next year.
Russia has been building and modernizing stadiums throughout the country for the World Cup, with a budget of about 11 billion dollars.
The Confederations Cup will begin and end at the recently built St Petersburg Stadium. The facility, also called Zenit Arena after the local football club, has a capacity of 68,000 people for sports events.
The stadium's construction has been beset with delays. It is scheduled to be completed on June 12, just a few days before it is supposed to host the opening match of Russia versus New Zealand.
Moscow's Spartak Stadium will host several matches during the Confederations Cup, notably the match for third-place in early July. Opened in 2014 and also known as the Otkritie Arena, it has a capacity of 43,000 spectators.
The Kazan Arena in the eponymous central Russian city also has capacity for 45,000. It opened in 2013, when it hosted the Summer Universiade, an international competition of athletics events in which more than 150 countries participated.
The southern Russian city of Sochi's Fisht Stadium, named after a nearby mountain, was constructed for the 2014 Winter Olympics. It has a capacity of 48,000.
