Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, the Formula 1 team that has won seven drivers’ and six constructors’ championships, is under investigation by the company following an allegation of inappropriate behavior by a staff member.
Red Bull confirmed that it has launched an independent investigation into Horner, who has been in charge of the team since 2005, and said that it takes these matters extremely seriously. Horner, who is married to former Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell, has denied the claims and said that he will cooperate fully with the investigation.
The nature of the allegation has not been disclosed, but it is understood that it was made by a female employee of the team. The investigation is being carried out by an external specialist barrister, who will report the findings to Red Bull as soon as possible.
Horner, 50, was awarded a CBE for his services to motorsport in the New Year Honors List. He has led Red Bull to unprecedented success in F1, with Max Verstappen winning his third consecutive world title last year, breaking several records along the way.
Red Bull is due to unveil its new car for the 2024 season on February 15, ahead of the first race in Bahrain on March 2. The team is expected to face a strong challenge from Mercedes, which has signed Lewis Hamilton for another year, and Ferrari, which has revamped its driver line-up with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
