France and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has been taken into custody over blackmail accusations in connection with a sex tape involving another national team player, news reports said Wednesday.
The reports said that Benzema, 27, was questioned by police in Versailles who are looking into whether he played a part in an extortion attempt against France team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.
Three people have been handed preliminary charges since Valbuena reported the case in summer, and former France player Djibril Cisse was briefly detained last month.
