Qatar is open to staging more international matches as the 2022 FIFA World Cup host prepare to hold the Total CAF Super Cup 2019 at Thani Bin Jassim Stadium – home of Al Gharafa Sports Club.
The one-off match between the winner of Total CAF Champions League 2018, Esperance Sportive de Tunis and the winner of Total CAF Confederation Cup 2018, Raja Club Athletic, will take place on Friday (March 29) in Doha.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al Thani, President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), and Ahmad Ahmad, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), signed the Doha hosting agreement for the annual one-match competition last December.
Commenting on the preparations for the blockbuster match, Director of Marketing, Qatar Football Association Khalid Mubarak al Kuwari said on Wednesday: “Qatar is willing to host many events of course after studying them and seeing how useful it will be for the experts in the field to acquire more experience and knowing how to host important games.
“There’s a MoU between Qatar FA and CAF and this facilitate the hosting and organising of the CAF Super Cup. The purpose of this event is to give all the people working in football-related fields to acquire more experience in preparation for the FIFA 2022 World Cup.
“We are happy to host this important football event for the first time in Doha. We advice fans to get tickets as early as possible,” Khalid added.
Meanwhile, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the “Total CAF Super Cup 2019” is releasing on Friday the first batch of tickets for sale on the websites of the QFA. The LOC, which comprises representatives of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and the Qatar Football Association (QFA), is anticipating that the first batch of online tickets will sell in a matter of hours after their release, especially that Espérance Sportive de Tunis and Raja of Morocco have a significant fan-base in Qatar and the Middle East.
The LOC has also revealed that print tickets will be made available to the public in shopping malls and clubs across Qatar starting March 15, ticket booths locations will include Villaggio Mall, Qatar Sports Club (gate5) and Al Gharafa Sports Club (gates 7 and 8).
