Brazilian icon Neymar left Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to join Al-Hilal in the summer after a six-year spell in France.

The Ligue 1 giants paid €222 million to bring in the striker from Barcelona in 2017.

The Brazilian had hoped at that time to step out of Lionel Messi’s shadow as he dreamt of winning the Ballon d’Or.

He went on to sign for PSG despite having some issues in his right foot, as doctors allegedly identified a stress fracture in the fifth metatarsal during his medical examination, according to L’Equipe.

Regardless of these concerns, the French club signed the player and avoided treating the injury through surgery as they hoped that it wouldn’t worsen over time.

Due to PSG's large investment that broke the transfer record when signing Neymar, the club understood that surgery would keep their newly acquired star out of action for a lengthy period.

Now, the 31-year-old is facing a similar situation at Al-Hilal that could see him miss out on game time for an extended period due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

He is set to miss the remainder of the current season at the very least after undergoing surgery in October.
