Algerian athlete Taoufik Makhloufi, double silver medallist in the Rio 2016 Olympics in the 800m and 1500m events, abandoned the idea of taking part in the IAAF World Challenge of Berlin (Germany), because of an “utter exhaustion,” a source close to the athlete told APS on Friday.
“The season was gruelling for Makhloufi, who got very tired after the meeting of Paris-Saint-Denis, in which he participated just following the Olympic Games of Rio and the long preparation that they required. He therefore decided not to take part in the IAAF World Challenge of Berlin in order not to end the year totally exhausted,” said the source, confirming that Makhloufi will participate in the meeting of Brussels (Belgium) on 9 September 2016.
In Brussels meeting, Makhloufi will compete in the 1500m event while in the previous competitions, he favoured the 800m event.
