Kuwait Special Olympics team will participate in the 15th World Special Olympics Games 2019 (Mental Disabilities), hosted by the United Arab Emirates in March with the participation of 7,500 athletes from 192 countries.
Kuwaiti Special Olympics teamDirector Rehab Buresly said at a press conference Tuesday the team consists of76 players and coaches of both genders, ready for the tournament and lookingforward to achieve gold medals.
There are several activities andprograms for the Special Olympics, including competitive sports, trainingcompetitions, social initiatives, health programs and a conference to prepareyoung leaders with disabilities, she added.
Buresly noted that Kuwait willparticipate in eight games, basketball, handball, football, volleyball,bowling, athletics, weightlifting and table tennis.
The Special Olympics aims tointegrate people with mental disabilities into society and develop theirathletic skills, Buresly said.
For her part, Deputy Director of KuwaitiSpecial Olympics team, Huda Al-Khaldi, pointed out that the delegation willdepart on March 8 to the emirate of Sharjah, the host city of the SpecialOlympics.
Al-Khaldi noted the players anddelegations will be visiting the landmarks in Sharjah.
Kuwait Special Olympics ChairmanHayat Mostafa said that the idea of the Special Olympics was made afterobserving that sports activities contribute happiness to people with mentaldisabilities and help in rehabilitating them intellectually and physically.
The Special Olympics is a globalsports movement that creates a new world of integration with the community forpeople with disabilities regardless of their ability or disability.
