Kuwait's National Athletics team headed to Qatar on Saturday to take part in the 23rd edition of Asian Athletics Championships.
The four-day continental sport event kicks off on Sunday with participation of some 1,000 male/female athletes from 45 countries.
The Kuwaiti team boasts 16 athletes, who will compete in the track and field contests, head of the delegation Bader Al-Reshoud told KUNA, adding the team is accompanied by administrative and coaching staffs.
Al-Reshoud, also board member of the Kuwait Association of Athletic Federation, mentioned names of the Kuwaiti participants; Yaqoub Al-Youha, Yousef Karam, Ali Al-Zankawi, Mohammad Salman, Abdulaziz Al-Qurainees, Ibrahim Al-Thafiri, Fawaz Yaqout, Majed Al-Zaid, Khaled Al-Masad, Khaled Al-Subaie, Meshari Surour, Ibrahim Al-Fadhli, Rashed Al-Failakawi, Mohammad Al-Enezi, Hussain Kamal, and Ibrahim Al-Asak.
The Kuwaiti team is fully prepared to compete in this important tournament, he affirmed, noting that, prior to the Asian event, the team has participated in the Arab championship, held in Egypt a couple of months ago, during which they earned seven different medals, in addition to a successful training camp in Qatar.
For his part, team manager Khaled Khalifa stressed to KUNA the importance of the 23rd edition of Asian Athletics Championships in qualifying the winning teams to the 2019 World Championships in Athletics, set to take place in Doha on September 28, hoping his countrymen score advanced results that qualify them for the grand event.
The Kuwait Association of Athletic Federation was keen on overcoming all obstacles for the Kuwaiti team and enable it to make further accomplishments for the Kuwaiti sport, he affirmed, valuing the Public Authority for Sports' continued support, led by Dr. Humoud Falaiteh, of the Association, which propelled the national teams to score great accomplishments at regional and international tournaments.
